The science and practical management of head injury in sports in continuously
evolving. There is ample evidence indicating potentially significant and permanent deficits in athletes with minor head
injuries especially if allowed to go back too early. The links below will provide the physician with useful information on
how to recognize and assess a head injury or sport concussion, when to send a player back to activity as well as general information
regarding head injury.
The Third International Conference on Concussion in Sport
held in Zurich in 2008 provided an international consensus on concussion in sport. The SCAT 2 presented at the conference
was updated to the SCAT 3 concussion assessment tool in 2013. Links to both these tools are also provided below. These can be printed and
kept handy in your office for assessment of athletes with a history of concussion.
